Tryouts ($25)

The tryout fee is a non-refundable fee of $25 used to cover costs and provide the athletes with AAU membership. The AAU membership is required and provides the athletes with secondary insurance coverage.  In addition each athlete will receive a reversible basketball jersey for participating. The tryouts will be held at the Big Rapids Middle School gymnasiums. Tryouts for all levels shall be a minimum of 1.5 hours long. The tentative dates for tryouts are December 6, 2008. Parents will be notified as to their players tryout assignments via mail.

Teams

Our goal is to field at least one team in each grade. The number of players per team will range between 8 and 10. Multiple teams in specific age groups will be dependent on the availability of coaches and practice facilities. Multiple teams in 7th grades and under will divide equally based on player skills and positions. Multiple teams in grades 8th and up group will be split into competitive and development teams based on individual skills.  

 

Playing Time

Our goal is to provide equal playing time for all athletes. If listed on the roster and dressed to play (unless injured or suspended from playing for disciplinary reasons), every player must play in every game.  The club's 60/40 playing rule requires that all players’ receive between forty to sixty percent of the playing time over the entire tournament.  Coaches will rotate players according to our equal play philosophy. 

 

Practices

Practices are usually on Wednesday and/or Friday evenings and/or Sundays.  The day and time will be dependent on the availability of facilities and coaches schedules. Most practices will be held at the Big Rapids High School and Middle School gymnasiums. However, additional facilities may be used due to scheduling conflicts with other school and/or community related activities. This year we will be using player contracts that are intended to help players/parents understand club rules and individual team requirements.

 

Tournaments ($125)

The tournaments are held on Saturday or Sunday and are scheduled by the coaches. Typical locations for tournaments are Grand Rapids, Mt. Pleasant , Lansing, etc. The tournament fee will be $125 per player. The fee is for 6 tournaments with a minimum of 3 games per tournament. The fee will be assessed prior to the first team practice.

 

Uniforms ($60)

The uniform fee is estimated at $60. The fee will be assessed prior to the first team practice. Returning players may use existing uniform. Conflicts with uniform numbers will be determined by free throw shoot off.

 

Coaches

In the event that a coach is not available for a specific age group or there are not enough players to form a team the tryout fee will be refunded for that age group only. If you are interested in volunteering to coach contact Mark Schriner via email mark.schriner@elpaso.com
